I-K-9. ELEANOR CORNELIA "NENA" BEESON (1876 – 1971), daughter of Mary Ann Frances Sibert3 (David2, John David1)

Eleanor Cornelia Beeson was born on 6 December 1876 in Keener, Etowah County, Alabama. [1][2] She died on 19 January 1971, age 94, in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama. [2][3] She married Dr. John Coleman O'Gwynn on 3 July 1901 in Etowah County. [1][4][5] John was the son of David Coleman and Emma (Gordon) O'Gwynn. [3] He was born on 12 August 1879 in Alabama. [2][6][7] He died on 13 January 1945 in Mobile, Mobile County. [2][3] Eleanor and John are buried in the Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Mobile County. [2]

Eleanor attended the Marengo Female College. [8]

According to the census, in 1900 Eleanor C., born in December 1876, lived with her parents and was a school teacher. In 1910 John, aged 30, and Nena B., aged 28, lived in Mobile with their children Emma L., aged six, and John C., aged three. John was a physcian—a "specialist"—and John and Nena had been married nine years. Nena had had three children, and two were living. [9]

According to his World War I draft card, on 12 September 1918, John was a physician. He was described as tall, of medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair. [6]

In 1920 John, aged 40, and Nena, aged 37, lived in Mobile with their children Louise, aged 16, and J. Coleman, Jr., aged 12. John was an eye doctor; they were all born in Alabama. [9]

Children of Eleanor Cornelia Beeson and John Coleman O'Gwynn:

i. Emma Louise O'Gwynn was born on 11 September 1903 in Alabama. [1][2] She died on 7 June 1952, age 48, in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama. [2][3] She married C.M. Dunn on 24 June 1925. [1] She married [second?] Carl Oscar Ekberg. [2][10] He was born on 24 July 1885. [2] He died on 30 December 1968. [2] Louise and Carl are buried in the Pine Crest Cemetery. [2]

Carl Ekberg, aged 58, foreman, and Louise O'Gwynne, aged 40, both of Mobile, obtained a marriage license on 19 October 1943 in Covington, Kentucky. [10]

According to the census, in 1850 Carl Oscar, aged 64, and Emma Louise, aged 46, lived in Mobile. Carl, born in Ohio, was retired. Emma Louise, born in Florida[!], worked as a nurse's aid in a hospital. [9]

ii. Mary Eleanor O'Gwynn was born on 9 July 1905. [1] She died young. [1]

iii. Dr. John Coleman O'Gwynn was born on 11 or 12 May 1907 in Alabama. [1][2] He died on 13 July 1972, age 65, in Mobile, Mobile County. [2][3] He married Lawrence Pauline Norton on 3 May 1933 in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama. [2][3][11][12] Pauline was the daughter of Lawrence W. Norton of Decatur. [12][13] She was born on 19 September 1907. [2] She died on 12 June 2004. [2] John and Pauline are buried in the Pine Crest Cemetery. [2]

John received his B.A. from the University of Alabama. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1929. He studied for a year in Berlin, Germany. [12]

Pauline received her B.A. from the University of Alabama. At the time of her marriage, she was doing graduate work at the University of North Carolina and teaching high school. [12]

According to the census, in 1940 John, aged 32, and Pauline, aged 32, lived in Mobile with their son Coleman III, aged three, and a possibly living daughter. John was a physician. In 1950 John, aged 42, and Pauline, aged 42, lived in Mobile with their son John, aged 15, and their daughter. John was a physician. [9]
